Hello from Scotland!

It's day three at IVACON here in Edinburgh, Scotland and despite being a little jet lagged, I'm having the best time.

I've been attending voice teacher conferences as a singing teacher since about 2008?? And every year I come away with new skills, new ideas, new friends, and a renewed sense of community from my voice teacher pals.

IVACON is our annual voice teacher conference put on by the Institute for Vocal Advancement. I'm an IVA Ambassador which means I'm on the education team and get to wear a fancy "staff" lanyard for the week. 😂

It is not exaggeration to say that I'm surrounded by some of the best voice teachers in the world. And I do mean in the WORLD! We have teachers here from Australia, China, South America, Mexico, Canada, the USA, all over Europe, and Great Britain.

I'm going to keep this quick, but the thing I'm overwhelmingly struck by this week (and every time I get to attend this kind of thing!) is this:

We aren't meant to go at it alone!

Students may look to their voice teacher as the "expert" in the room, and indeed, we may be in some regard! But there is ALWAYS more to learn, and different ways to look at things. And we can only get that within a community environment.

The same is true for performers as well.
